Fixing Common Error Messages

Encountered an error? Find the message below to see exactly how to fix it and get back to automating your documents.

Error MessageSolution
"Template File Not Found"
Error 404
The Google Doc/Slide used as a template was deleted or moved to the Trash.
Fix: Restore the file from Trash or select a new template in the General Settings tab.
"Access Denied / Permission Error"The add-on lost permission to write to your Drive folder.
Fix: Reload the add-on sidebar. If that fails, re-install the add-on to grant permissions again.
"Exceeded Maximum Execution Time"Google restricts scripts to 6 minutes (30s for free accounts).
Fix: Reduce the number of images in your template or generate fewer files at once.
"Invalid Marker Syntax"You have a typo in your merge tags.
Fix: Check for unclosed brackets like {{Name} or mismatching brackets like {{Name>>.
"Column Header Missing / Unmapped"A merge tag in your template doesn't match any column in your spreadsheet.
Fix: Double-check exact spelling, capitalization, and spacing. {{First Name}} must match the sheet column First Name exactly.
"Daily Email Quota Exceeded"You have hit Google's daily limit for sending emails via add-ons (approx. 100 for free Gmail, 1500 for Workspace).
Fix: Wait 24 hours for your quota to reset, or temporarily disable the "Send Email" option to continue generating PDFs.
"Trigger Failed to Run"The background automation failed. This frequently happens if you recently changed your Google password.
Fix: Open the Automations tab, toggle auto-generation off, and then toggle it back on to refresh the background trigger.

Common Formatting Anomalies

Sometimes files generate successfully but don't look quite right. Check these common layout culprits:

Blank Pages in PDF

Usually caused by hidden page breaks or excessive empty lines at the very bottom of your Google Doc template. Delete all trailing whitespace.

Images Not Displaying

If images aren't merging, ensure the image links in your form responses are publicly accessible (anyone with the link can view) and point directly to a file (like .png or .jpg).

Is your Drive full?

If files stop generating silently without any error message, check your Google account storage. If you have reached the 15GB limit, Google will outright block the creation of new PDFs.
